Segamat Flood 2011 - Flood relief by Charisma Assembly

The following video is a brief report on the Segamat Flood that happened in February 2011 and what our church did to aid the flood victims.

As you have heard that Segamat went through a massive flood on CNY and many victims lost everything. This flood was worse than the one in 2006. In fact, lives were lost this  time while in 2006, none was lost.

As a christian testimony for Christ, we co-ordinated a flood disaster relief work on the 26th & 27th February 2011.

We organized to distribute rice, milo, towels, biscuits, mee, etc. to help victims in their post-flood. We identified and distributed to 1500 homes. It is a lot of work.

Our budget was RM200,000 for 1500 homes that works out to RM133 per family.

Prior to the distribution:

1. Our church people went door-to-door to most of the flood victims and identified them to be genuine flood victims. In this way, there is no false distribution to non-deserving families, no multiple collection per family.

2.We collected 1500 addresses as data on families:  by ground investigation. There are actually more than 1500 families, about 4000 families were affected, but that would involve a tremendous huge sum of money for relief work, which we didn't have. We have to improvise according to our budget.

3. We targeted and gave relief to Malays, Chinese and Indians who were neighbors to each other regardless of race or religion.

4. We targeted single storey houses first. No bungalows. No semidetach houses. No business premises. No rich families because they do not feel as much loss as compared to the less fortunate ones. Period. Our objective was reaching out to the community with love through flood relief.

5. We channeled them to collect the flood relief goods on the 26th and 27th February 2011.

Please view  the  video for the report:

God bless all the donors, supporters, sponsors, helpers, church members and everyone far and near, who has made this flood relief effort a success.

To God be the glory, great things He has done. !!

Pray for Malaysia

In view of the ISA arrests by the police and government, NECF has issued a statement as to the stand of the evangelical church regarding the issue. Their statement can be seen at:

http://www.necf.org.my/newsmaster.cfm?&menuid=43&action=view&retrieveid=1018

According to 2 Chr 7:14, we should pray.

PRAY

1. For good governance, justice and righteousness

2. Government to
* discard oppressive laws,
* repent of its arrogant wrongdoings, and
* have due regard for humanity and the fundamental rights of its citizens

3. Sensible ministers with sober judgment to continue to make a difference in the system.
* May the God of grace restore, confirm, strengthen and establish those who desire good and not evil for the country.

4. All citizens continue to
* advocate justice, and
* stand for freedom against tyranny and any dehumanizing forces of the day.

5. Against the spirit behind fanaticism
* those with meaningless lives (and becoming obsessed with external performance) to find meaning and purpose of life in Christ
* those with distorted views will be enlightened to see reality whole

6. The Church:
* manifold wisdom of God be made known through the Church;
* to live out her call to “take no part in unfruitful works of darkness but instead expose them” (Eph 5:11)
* to be rid of fear
* Christian ministers and MPs that they will stand firm (Isa 40:10-20)

7. The peace of Christ to reign supreme in Malaysia

Born in Malaysia but not considered a citizen of Malaysia

Kon Foo Chin, 58, was born in Kuala Lumpur to a Chinese immigrant father and a Malaysian mother, in 1949 and has always called Malaysia home yet he is still not a citizen. He has applied for citizenship in the 1960s, but the only problem was that he failed the Bahasa Malaysia test which he took as a young man. Not being granted citizenship has been difficult for him because he does not get the same kind of privileges that citizens get. One example is in the applying and renewing passport. According to Federal Territory MCA Youth deputy chairman Yee Poh Ping, he estimated that some 200,000 Chinese residents in Malaysia are still holding red ICs. Most of them are senior citizens who have been living in Malaysia for many years. Some have been here even before Independence. Over the years, they have paid their taxes and contributed to the Malaysian economy, and their families are all here...The Star.

It is ironical to think that you can be born in the country of your birth and yet that country does not accord to you automatic citizenship. Yet you hear of thousands if not tens of thousands having red Identity Cards (ICs) within 1 or 2 years of entering Malaysian soil. Most of the time, these illegal immigrants come into the country via illegal gateways and sometimes through perilous waters and the cloak of darkness of the night.

Cheer up and rejoice that our Lord does not practice such biasness and injustice. Our God is a God of justice and righteousness for everyone. If your are born into His kingdom, He gives you instant citizenship for His Kingdom. He even promise you a mansion is awaiting you when you spend eternity with Him.

So the next time you hear of someone lamenting the issue of lack of MyKad or blue ICs or citizenship, point them to the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings who gives His citizenship liberally when you are born again into His Kingdom.

Implications of converting to Islam

If you convert to Islam, there are important changes in your legal status and what you can or cannot do. Your conversion to Islam will be registered with the Religious Department and the National Registration Department, both of which are computerised, so that access to this information is available throughout the country.

Under Syariah enactments of most of the 13 States of Malaysia:

1. Conversion back to your former religion is either (a) not allowed under the law, or (b) a criminal offence which means you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned under most State Islamic laws.

2. If you are under 18 years of age, you require your parent’s permission to convert to Islam.

3. Your identity card will record your conversion to Islam. Therefore, even if you are no longer practising Islam, you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned for violation of Syariah laws, such as praying in church, eating in public during fasting month, khalwat etc.

4. You cannot marry a non-Muslim. If you decide to divorce and attempt to convert out of Islam, you will lose custody of your children because they are Muslims.

5. Upon death, your non-Muslim relatives will lose their rights to any money, property, money etc. that you want to leave to them. The corpse of a convert to Islam will be taken away from his or her non-Muslim family for Islamic rites and burial even if you have not been a practising Muslim for many years.

6. In the event that your spouse converts to Islam, you may have no right to either your children or your spouse’s property.

We know that certain Christians who convert to Islam for whatever reasons, are not aware of or do not consider seriously the implications of such conversion.

Hence the need to inform you. By this, we are neither against Islam nor freedom of religion, which is guaranteed for all Malaysians in Article 11 of our Constitution which give the right to an individual to freely choose his or her religion.

But to choose correctly, you need to know clearly what you choose and the consequences of your choice.
