Pray and also support Burma / Myanmar

We were talking about praying for the nation of Malaysia yesterday in church.

Do remember Burma in prayer also. I have friends who are still going into Myanmar to help out the Christian minority who are under great persecution there.

Here are some facts which were taken from the Christian worker:

The Burmese people are suffering under Myanmar's repressive regime and I would like to share some facts with you taken from the internet :

• Use of forced labor for state economic development.
• The regime has also recruited up to 70,000 child soldiers – far more than any other country in the world. The use of forced labor by the regime, a modern-day form of slave labor, was recently decried in an extremely rare public criticism by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
• A 500% increase in fuel (red petroleum) prices that triggered the recent protest.
• Health indicators in Burma resemble those of conflict zones in Africa. Burma’s regime spends less than one dollar per person on health-care compared with Thailand’s $61 per person and spends only $137,000 a year (total-not per capita) on HIV/AIDS for a population of 55 million. The consequences for the people of Burma and Burma’s neighboring countries are deadly.
• International corruption watchdog Transparency International ranked Myanmar, along with Somalia, as the most corrupt country in the world in the group's 180-country index for 2007

Prayer and repentance for the nation of Myanmar (Burma)

The military crackdown in Burma is a reminder that street demonstrations do not necessarily lead to success for popular uprisings. The key factor is the destabilization of the existing regime and if protests cannot bring that about, they become vulnerable to the kind of repression the Burmese authorities have imposed.

Man-made answers for a regime change cannot be effected without a national breakthrough in prayer and repentance for a nation such as Myanmar. Christians throughout the world have seen the powerful effect of prayer especially when whole communities began to pray.

The Lord says, in:
2Ch 7:14 and my people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I'll be there ready for you: I'll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health.

Governments may change. Rulers may be overthrown. Juntas may be cast down. Guns may be replaced with votes but a nation without the guiding hand of Almighty God is like a river without river banks.

Pray for Myanmar. Fast for Myanmar. If God can heal Israel even when it was in abject idolatry, God can heal Myanmar.

Would you spend some quiet moment to pray for Myanmar? Do you feel that what you pray can add to the impact of moving the heart and hand of God? You may save future loss of lives if you do.

a faulty human government in Myanmar

Ever since the beginning of time, we have seen again and again that all kinds of human governments have not been able to rule humanity with fairness, love, compassion and peace. The sin-natured kings and queens or rulers have always placed self above all else especially the people that they are supposed to care for.

Israel wanted a king because the other nations around them had kings. God said, Israel have rejected God as their king when they demanded a human king to be their ruler. The people were warned that the king would make demands on them. The king would desire their strong men and take their girls for his wives. They have to contribute to the coffers of the king to maintain the demands of the kingdom. Yet after all the warnings, Israel chosed the have Saul as the king and placed less importance on seeking God who is their King of Kings.

Today, we are seeing all forms of government from democratic, semi-democratic, communist, socialist to militant rule. People are still electing kings, rulers, presidents, queens, agongs, sultans, and someone whom they think can make the right decisions for them.
