Rom 5:17  For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

Righteousness means = Right standing before God.

Qn: What causes us to reign? Abundance of Grace & Righteousness. Both also, we did not earn them. They are from Jesus, from the Cross.

2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus had no sin = Yet He was made sin. God is the One who sent Jesus to the Cross (not you). God judged Jesus at the Cross.

We had no righteousness = Yet We were made the righteousness of God.

Question: How can we, who didn't do any righteous works, can become righteousness of God?
Answer: How can Jesus, who didn't do any sinful works, can become sin.

Do you believe in Jesus?
Then righteousness is imputed to you.

Isa 64:6  But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

God didn't say all our "sins" – but all our righteousness meaning all our attempts at self-goodness; self-holiness.

Fade as a leaf = like Adam's leaf covering his private part (depiction of self-righteousness).

Filthy rags = actual interpretation = menstrual cloth. That is how filthy our own righteousness is.

Rom 3:21  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 4:3  For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

You are seed of Abraham (Gal 3:29) – not seed of Moses, not David,not Isaac, not Isaiah, not Peter.

Why? Because you believe God.

Gal 3:6  Even as Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.
Gal 3:7  Therefore know that those of faith, these are the sons of Abraham.

Note: God counted righteous even though there are evidences he did not live a righteous life. Why? Because of faith.

Do you believe God? Yes.
Are you in Christ? Yes.
Then you have the righteousness of God.

1Co 1:30  But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption;
